DESCRIPTION
Light Tree Apartments, located in East Palo Alto, is a pioneering redevelopment project that promises to bring innovation to the creation of low-income housing. Originally constructed in 1966, this family community is revitalizing its mission to provide affordable homes to a diverse range of residents, including low-income families, individuals with disabilities, those who have experienced homelessness, and former foster youth. Upon completion, the renovated Light Tree Apartments will offer a total of 185 affordable homes, nearly doubling the current capacity.
Situated on a 3.39-acre site, Light Tree Apartments offers a shared outdoor space, a basketball half-court, play structure, community garden, laundry rooms, podium, and uncovered surface parking. The comprehensive scope of work includes the installation of new HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems, transitioning to all-electric utility services, implementing a solar photovoltaics system, introducing drought-tolerant landscaping with water-efficient irrigation, upgrading existing three-story buildings with new elevators, and providing EV charging stations.
With its commitment to expanding affordable housing options, Light Tree Apartments is set to make a lasting impact in the East Palo Alto community. This transformative development, in partnership with EPA Can Do, reflects a forward-thinking approach to address the growing need for affordable housing in the region.
